Adventures with Your Senior Pup: Traveling with an Old Dog
Post by Donna Freebury
Traveling with an older dog can be incredibly rewarding— and challenging, sharing new experiences with your loyal companion in their golden years creates unforgettable memories.
Start with a thorough vet check-up to confirm they’re healthy enough for the trip and discuss any necessary medications or precautions. Which Riley has been to the vets many times this summer due to pain in her back.
Pack wisely: bring their regular food, medications, favorite bedding or toys for comfort, and a pet first-aid kit. Half of our truck contains her bed, food, water and meds
Choose pet-friendly accommodations and destinations with easy access—no steep hikes or extreme temperatures.
During the journey, take frequent breaks for short, gentle walks, hydration, and potty stops. Maintain their usual feeding and sleep schedule as much as possible to reduce stress. Which is extremely tough to do.
Watch for signs of fatigue or discomfort and be ready to adjust plans. With extra patience and care, you’ll both enjoy the adventure.
Remember to bring anxiety drugs for yourself 🤣.
Safe travels with your best friend! 🐶❤️
